Ray is a hard worker and basically honest for the most part. He married a girl with a snotty dad who takes a typical elitist view of anyone who fails to make money the old-fashioned way: inheriting it. Ray has another problem to deal with besides his furniture store not exactly setting the world on fire. And so, when that fateful hot night in Harlem comes, Ray is ripe with the genetic predisposition to at least dabble in the criminal ways of his ancestry, Even so, not everybody needs to buy their furniture in Harlem from just one store. It is what separates man from the animals. Because, you know, everybody needs furniture eventually.
